“It’s not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth” Barbara Katz Rothman

‘Holding you through Matrescence’.

Hi, I’m Monica.

It seems birth, homebirth and midwifery have always been part of my life.

When pregnant with me my mother couldn’t find a homebirth midwife so she chose to freebirth, encouraged by her unicorn of a GP obstetrician. I arrived en caul (still in the amniotic sac), and the experience inspired her to return to study midwifery and she begin supporting homebirth herself.

She took me to my first homebirth at around age four, though I mostly remember getting my arm stuck in an old wringer washing machine! I don’t recall the baby being born, but my mum remembers a row of little faces at the end of the bed, mine included, as a new life entered the room. Over the years, I watched her move from homebirth midwife to birthing suite charge nurse and, eventually, into private practice.

When I birthed both of my beautiful babies, I felt the full force of what birth can be, the power, the presence, and the intensity of the postpartum. Becoming a midwife was A FULL BODY YES!

In 2009, I completed my Bachelor of Midwifery with Distinction. For 15 years, I worked as a Clinical Midwifery Specialist within a Midwifery Group Practice model at a freestanding birth centre, supporting physiological birth without onsite obstetric care. This model, based on strong relationships and individualised support, shaped my deep commitment to relationship-based personalised care, birth your way, and nurturing families.

Today, life is full, with my tall, gorgeous husband James, our collective six kids (all now over 20!), and a new chapter in Bondi. When I’m not working, you’ll find me with my feet in the dirt or the ocean, lifting weights, connecting with my soul sisters, and enjoying the quieter, “crunchy” side of life.

On a relaxed day, I love nothing more than cooking wholesome food for a table full of people I love.

Whatever your plans, preferences, or questions, I’m here to chat.

‘My Philosophy’

MotherCare is about mamas getting informed, being supported, and having epic care with profound connection.

I’m here to walk alongside you and support your growing knowledge as you and your family journey through pregnancy and childbirth.

My role is to model a deep commitment to honouring the power of birth and creating a supportive space as a supportive carer for whatever unfolds. I believe in midwifery skills and knowing when and how to support physiology to optimise outcomes.

My own pregnancy and experiences as a new mama helped me understand how important good care is.

This drives me to provide women with evidence-based information and personal, safe, nurturing, and respectful care while developing a mutually trusting relationship with the family I care for during their journey into their baby’s first year.

‘My Collaborations’

As a Registered and Endorsed Midwife, I work within many professional guidelines.

Should any risk factors develop, I consult with a wide range of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, endocrinologists, mental health professionals, and social workers.

I also collaborate with naturopaths, dieticians, acupuncturists, or women’s health physiotherapists, and I am more than happy to work alongside practitioners you already know and trust.
